ALUMNI DOCUMENTARY

If being in VEX for three years has taught us anything other than teamwork, cooperation, robotics, how to have fun, and probably 100 other things we can't even list, it is the disproportional amount of boys and girls in the VEX community.

This is because girls aren’t aware of these opportunities and they don’t see enough women in STEM related fields. Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg are the talk of the day, but there isn’t a woman in that list. Many of the greatest minds in STEM have had someone that inspired them, someone they aspired to be like, and a key fact is that they find something in common with their role model. How are girls going to enter STEM fields with barely any women to call their example? Naturally, with less women in the workspace, there is a lesser chance of them getting higher up position and making it big. Furthermore, only 12.2% of all board members in the information technology industry are women. This just creates an indefinite cycle. Less women enter the STEM fields because they don’t have women to look up to because less women are in the STEM fields.

Now, to the solution. We want to spread word about how fun and exciting robotics can be, so we are making an alumni documentary complete with all of the alumni teams experiences and their tips. We will be holding a Zoom interview and will compile all their answers in this short documentary (also attached below) so that we can eventually showcase it to other girls and inspire them to take up STEM fields and VEX robotics.
